Coding with Codepen
I have been investigating different coding platforms and have made a few decisions.
I looked at many of the 'moving blocks around' types of programmes like Scratch, but I have decided that my learners actually need to not only read the code but also create the code. Therefore I have decided to work in the 'real world' by teaching them HTML, with CSS and JS and use Codepen to view the results.
Starting with HTML, the teaching will cover what it does, basic HTML coding language and practising creating own HTML in Codepen.
Then I would like to make a few games like cut up coding lines that students can physically assemble into the logical order.
Following an understanding of HTML, I will introduce CSS and JS. These are the fun parts where students can change the look and feel of their HTML and make it more interactive.
It will be very basic as the students are only Y7/8, but I think they will enjoy it, and it will definitely be a challenge.

Some gadgets not working
Today I noticed that some of our blog gadgets are not working. I believe that recently Google changed the way they work with 3rd party gadgets.
One of the 3rd party gadget we are using is 'Recent Comments'. I noticed that no comments were showing, even though comments had been left recently.
Luckily I discovered (with help from friends) that the problem was around privacy and the fix was easy. Blogs are usually displayed under a https:// url. If you remove the https:// from the url, the recent comments suddenly display.
